When I was a child, I always looked forward to my birthday as every year I wished that my parents would throw a party for me. Thinking back, I had a few, most held at home and one at Burger King (I was some BK Club member then, haha!) There were relatives, friends, birthday cake, birthday song, presents… Wonderful things that a child would wish for on this special day.
When I grew up, my close friends will laugh at me, saying that my birthday is like some national day where celebration lasts for a week. Well, that’s because I prefer gathering in small groups, so there will be my family, secondary, JC, poly and Uni friends, colleagues, ex-colleagues etc. Ya so maybe not a week lah, just few separate occasions where lovely folks celebrate my birthday with me.
However, things are getting a little different now, or rather my idea of birthday. I don’t really make birthday wish anymore, somehow lost the “magical feeling” for it along the years. I’m just simply happy that loved ones bother to remember this day, spend a precious effort to send their wishes to me and especially touched when friends overseas spent those extra dollars calling me, wishing me and catching up.
And it was really heart-warming that a friend working in Shanghai, Liping sent me a birthday card. Gosh, I was like, “Shanghai stamps! Birthday card! Handwritten!” I was truly touched. The best gift I received this year is a handmade photo box, beautifully decorated, and with a pair of pretty earrings stuck on it. I love it.
Dear family and friends:
For all the birthday wishes, presents, sweet thoughts and love, THANK YOU.

My Birthday 2009.
