August 2008

The best home-cooked curry (top left) I ever had, whipped up by the incredible Chef Steven. Ta da!!!

Complementing the spicy-good curry, we had authentic Hainanese
Pork Chop, healthy celery with fishcake & my greedy cutie sister.
Hehe~

Thanks a lot Chef Steven, looking forward to more of your wonderful cooking *drool*.

And, I bought some yummy tarts for dessert. They are from a traditional confectionary located at the Depot Heights neighbourhood area. I prefer the blueberry flavoured cheese tart, the slight sourish taste of the blueberry sauce blends well with the salty cheese and the freshness of the crust. I think the chocolate flavoured one is abit too sweet, thus can be quite gelato.

Part of my life: Desserts.
Cheesy-licking-good blueberry ($1.30/pc) or chocolate ($1.50/pc)
cheese tarts from Ikada @Blk 108 Depot Road.

One of my “sideline” is to be jie mei of weddings. Though there’s a saying that goes, if you play bridesmaid for more than three times, then you can’t get married off. But I dun believe in that! Anyway, it’s jie mei, not bridesmaid, and anyway I can’t turn back the clock, I’ve definitely played jie mei for more than three times, and more to come… …

How to be a successful jie mei ?

Try out the gatecrashing games personally.
ZY demonstrates.

What’s the biggest perk as a jie mei ?

Counting money. Shiok~

Presenting to you, 可爱五连拍, kawaii nei~!

Jie meis pretty in all expressions.

Thanks Ling for sharing the photos. There’s this one I really like.

My usual SMILE. That’s how I develop wrinkles, ha!

It’s a pre birthday celebration for Julian and our dear chef was hoping to check out this chapel-turned-restaurant, The White Rabbit at Dempsey (39C Harding Road).

Cool quiet ambience, beautiful decor, but the sofa seats we got were a little bit cramp.

Of course we were all looking forward to the food… … This restaurant serves free flow of yummy bread, where you can choose from onion, raisin or ciabatta bread. Check out the appetizers we had!

Beef tartare for Julian.
(*Tartare: it’s a meat dish made from finely chopped or
grounded raw beef or horse meat)

Shallot tart with cheese for Sanjev.

Waldorf salad for me! (Hmm I like the finely sliced apple…)

And next, we had our mains:

Its signature dish: White Rabbit Mac & Cheese for Julian.

Spaghetti & Meatballs with Foie Gras for Sanjev.

I wanted the Poached Salmon, but they only had it in the grilled version.
Sad~ It was disappointing. Overcooked (over-grilled) salmon…

We didn’t managed to check out the desserts because we bought a Canele’s Le Royale cake, which was awesome!

Birthday boy & his birthday cake.

The animated birthday boy.

Julian & Sanjev – the besties.

Er… Julian was just trying to smile like me.
Try harder next time.

Our first “formal” birthday celebration for Julian
after so many years…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Julian! May all your beautiful wishes come true (not the wicked ones please).

For almost ten months, I haven’t been on air. Miss the microphone, the listeners and just being comfortable at where I’m most familiar with… like a long lost “friend”.

Tune in to Zhou Liu Kuai Le Ying on every Saturday 12 to 4pm
where Diwei and I take turns to spend an exciting weekend
with YOU!

Next on… 30 August.

It was a normal Wednesday, but we decided like a week ago that we were going to have FUN even on a weekday night. And so, Seb drove us in his stylo sports car to JB where we gorged, gossiped and WOWed at the less expensive entertainment in JB! The 4 ladies & a man can really eat… Here are the list of finger licking good food we ate at the famous 大马花园:

Fried crayfish with cereal (MUST eat!)
Sambal kangkong
Baby kai lan
Sambal stingray
Herbal chicken (yummy…)
Crispy baby sotong
Handmade chee cheong fun (very traditional)
Oyster omelette
Char kway teow
Sugarcane juice (check out the SUPER big mug!)

A hearty meal @JB with Kay, YY, Nana & Seb!

Then, Seb brought us to this area where there are some good chill-out pubs and there’s even a Harley Davidson theme pub… It’s where Regency Hotel is, a short drive from the customs. We were too full to move our butts, so we just found a comfy pub, sat down and chilled with some drinks.

Chill @JB till late night…

It was so much FUN (and good foooooood) that we are planning our next trip to JB already. Hehe~

Though we don’t meet some friends as often as we hope to because everyone is so caught up with their own lives, but that’s why the once-in-awhile kinda gatherings are always so heart-warming and filled with laughter…

Full attendance finally. Thanks Ivy for “lending out” her lovely home.

Dinner was gooo…d. Sushi, KFC, salad, pudding, ice-cream & Ribena!

*SUPRISE* Happy belated birthday Lian!

Lucky Guanwen, you’re the first male specie included in
our all girls group photo for all these years.
(aiyo paiseh lor Zhiwei, Tianfu & Minghui… the poor husbands. Hee~)

Me: Wei, give some face, look at me leh.
Guanwen: Auntie ZY, look at the camera (stupid auntie…)

Next gathering: At Guanwen’s “big day” – 1st birthday party.

Woho~ looking forward to it. :)

Singaporeans braved through the rain at NDP 2008 wearing the blazing red ponchos, and of course showing lots of energy throughout the celebration. It’s a fun-filled event with heart-warming songs, exciting “Red Lions” parachute and jaw-dropping “Black Knights” fighter planes performances. Even though I had duties to fulfill, but I truly enjoyed myself especially so with the fun bunch of crazy folks: Wilson, John, Ryan, Kay, Candyce & Angel!

HAPPY 43RD BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE!!!
Had whole loada fun with the News boys & JIA gals.
:)

Last night, my sister showed me a bookmark excitedly, and my first reaction was like: Leon Lai bookmark? What the… And some more it’s Leon Lai with a retro centre parting “fountain hair”!!! GAWD~ Then, I took a closer look, there’s actually a note written on the bookmark that says something like this:

Dearest sister Lin, Good luck for your O-levels. All the best! Love, Ying. 09/1992

That was a good luck gift I gave my sister almost 16 years ago… … Wow suddenly my Maths is good! Which means I was 1* years old then, O-levels sounds like some history to me, not to mention for my sister. Ok enough about this age and growing old issue. And by the way, why Leon Lai? Becos he was her idol then. Duh, I never fancied Mr Lai Meng.

Anyway, what touches my heart is that for all these many many years, my sister & I have been sharing a close and supportive relationship, which we never take for granted.

I believe that we should never take anything for granted, especially towards your loved ones. Sometimes, you don’t have to find a reason to give a hug, whip up a simple meal or just say “I love you” to your loved ones. Happiness can just be as simple as that.

Glad we’ve been putting up with each other’s crap all these while… Heh.
Sister, I LOVE U.
