November 2007

9 Nov 2007 – There’s this bad habit of mine I really want to kick: Being late. I was nearly late for my flight from HK to Shanghai, because I was taking my own sweet time to pack my stuffs, haiz! Luckily I met a helpful cab driver and the place I was living in (Tung Chung) is very near to the airport, so *phew* I made it just in time to check in. Hee… Yea! Shanghai, here I come!

I really miss my friends in Shanghai & Hangzhou…

Well I love to eat (so dieting is my lifelong “hobby”), so trust me you’ll get to see many drooling photos of FOOD!

Fresh caixin with mushrooms, fiery meat patty, goose liver with soup pastry ,
juicy “dong po” meat, goose liver in green tea dumplings, durian pastry,
a romantic wedding in preparation, comfy ambience & lovely scenery…

@ Secret Garden – a Cantonese fusion restaurant located along Chang Le Lu. We have “My Secret Garden” in Singapore @ Waterloo Street, so there’s a Secret Garden in Shanghai too!

I went to this shopping mall a fews times during my 2-week stay in Shanghai. Why? Because I’m patriotic. Hahaa~~

Raffles City!! Yes in Shanghai.
And you know, Bread Talk is very well-liked by the locals!
Some said this photo on the right looks like we are in London… Hee~

I’m a fan of steamboat, sadly I only had it once in Shanghai, but it was really good and… hygienic.

My mushroom soup base steamboat @ the Dolar Shop!

Somehow, my friend Liping (this kind soul allowed me to stay with her in her cozy apartment) and I love Cantonese & Taiwanese cuisine, yes even in Shanghai. This is one Taiwanese fusion restaurant that my local friend Shuhan recommended. Some background story, it’s opened by a young Taiwanese couple who got married after dating for 3 months! So kay po, how did I get to know? Ha because Shuhan is a photo journalist and she has interviewed the female boss before. :)

warm red bean paste with ice cream @ Dai Guan Shan

And there’s Sichuan food! Presenting to you the specialty dish, Shui Zhu Yu! Don’t think it’s fish in boiled water, it’s actually fish cooked in chili oil and lots and lots of dried chili… Yea I like it SPICY!

located along Nanjing Lu Walking Street

Hey hey, my days in Shanghai are not only about food, if not I would have turned really FAT. I walked a lot too, enjoying the scenery and cool weather. Of course, the night scenery in Shanghai is not to be missed!

When you visit Shanghai, go shop along Nanjing Lu Walking Street,
enjoy the grand scenery of Pudong and watch out for the Bund!

Before I left for Shanghai, I spent another 2 days in HK and had more fun!

holiday-hk-collage.jpg

Eat: Pineapple bun, shrimp wanton mee, beef tendon noodles…
Play: Shop, club, night scenery @ Tian Xin harbour…

Don’t forget to pray for your loved ones at Wong Tai Sin too. Hong Kong is EXCITING!

But still have to say bye bye… Bye, Dashu~ Next stop, Shanghai.

Before that, share with you the very cantonese lingo they use in HK, so interesting:

Try reading this. Hey “canto style”!

Yo folks, Zhang Ying is back from her almost a month’s holiday to Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Macau, Shanghai & Hangzhou… Woa shiok!

Sorry that I’ve “disappeared” for so long because I could not access to wordpress in Shanghai, think there’s limited online access in China. But never too late to share exciting bits of my trip with you!

When I was in HK, other than going to Guangzhou, I went for a one day trip to Macau with Cindy, her parents and friends from Hong Kong.

holiday-cin-me-at-macau.jpg

Oh I love the architecture of the buildings in Macau.

And of course there was yummy food…

holiday-macau-food.jpg

Must eat: Pork burger (zhu pa bao) & portuguese egg tart!

Check out the latest casino in Macau, Venetia! Gambling is not my cup of tea (I only drink. Heh.) so I kept myself busy with taking photos of the beautiful Venetia.

U see the “sky”? It’s actually the ceiling. Cool…

If you’re going to HK for about a week, I suggest you should really go to Macau. It’s about an hour ferry ride away, and Macau is not only about placing your bets, you can get to appreciate the architecture of the buildings with wonderful details.

Got to write something before anyone of you comment that I’m lazy. For the past two days, I went over to Guangzhou (from Hong Kong) with my friend & her parents – thank you uncle & auntie for the “sponsored accomodation” and taking good care of me throughout the trip and of course Cindy, for inviting me along and also bearing with my crap. Haa…

Before I bring you to Guangzhou, let me tell you other than money, what will make me salivate.

Pineapple bun (“bo lo bao”), tangerine plum tea,
“Che Zai” noodles, curry fishballs with radish & pig skin
and nourishing papaya almond seed dessert

Are you drooling already? Heh. Then my dear Hong Kong friends Tina, Martin & Angel brought me through a “putting on weight process”, but a truly SHIOK one!

holiday-hk-friends.jpg

“Xiao Fei Yang” steamboat, must try!
The mutton in skewers are really tasty.
But after that, my advice is to take a stroll
at the “Xing Guang Da Dao” nearby.
:)

Oh ya, of course my ex on-air partner Jiayi and I “re-Played” in Hong Kong, what an exciting reunion for us!

holiday-replay-at-hk.jpg

Can you imagine “dashu” Jiayi was hanging out with me
at the most happening night spot in HK – Lan Kwai Fong?!
I couldn’t believe it at first, until he told the waitress
“Coke please”, then I rest assured that it was “dashu” :p

The trip to Guangzhou was short but fulfilling, visited some places of interest (including the famous Bai Yun Shan), took a cable car down the mountain, walked a lot and got some good bargains ha!

holiday-me-at-guangzhou.jpg

This franchise restaurant “Zhen Gong Fu” has Bruce Lee as its icon.
As I was taking the cable car, I realised I’m quite scared of heights~~
The statue on top is Mr. Sun Zhong Shan!
The night scenery at “Zhu Jiang” is really breath-taking…

That’s all for time being. Watch out for more actions and erm… more food yea.

Told myself to relax and not to overtire myself for this holiday, but failed.

Surprisingly I couldn’t really adapt to the new environment last night (I usually can sleep anywhere!), thus I dint sleep well. So not enough sleep, plus I was walking around this new shopping mall in Hong Kong called APM for many many hours. At the end of the day, I was too tired to even eat dessert, but still did lah after Jiayi kinda insisted.

And the amazing thing is we extended our “passion for food & play” from Singapore to HONG KONG! Ha check this out…

HK famous “bo lo bao” started off my day in a happy mode
Lalala~

Okie I’m really too tired to continue blogging. Will try my best to upload more photos the next time round. Btw the temperature now here in HK is shiok, around 19 to 23 degree celsius, machiam aircon everywhere! :p

Greetings from Hong Kong!

I’m a typical Gemini with both sides of character (in other words “split personalities”), as much as I like to hang out with friends, sometimes I enjoy being by myself. To me, personal space is important.

I like to travel alone too. I’ve been longing to take a break, going to different places visiting my friends. Oh ya, I’ve re-united with my “on-air partner” Jiayi in Hong Kong, will post some pics on my next blog!

However, this trip did not go as planned, there was a last minute change that got me pretty upset. I left for this holiday with a mixed feelings of excitement, yet with a tinge of sadness.

Things can never be perfect, but my positivity gets me going. Will have fun, afterall this is my long-awaited holiday. :)
